My role as a personal trainer isn't always what people think it may be. It isn't always about weight or fat loss, tough workouts and nutrition, every client is different with their own requirements, goals and expectations. I feel privileged to have worked with fit clients, ill clients, old clients, young clients and those in between, male clients, female clients, injured clients, healthy clients, weight loss clients, weight gain clients etc, etc, the list could run and run. I love how varied my role can be and I think one of the main significant differences between personal training and teaching classes is how you get to know your clients on a personal level too. Often the role of a personal trainer involves being a confidant, counsellor, advisor and friend, yet a few fellow trainers I know would disagree that you should allow yourself to be used in those guises. Personally, I have found that being flexible with the types of training I offer and being compassionate toward the clients emotional highs and lows has helped the client in more ways than one to achieve their aim. It has also helped me grow as a personal trainer. Just as each client is different, so is each personal trainer and I am one who is happy to train, guide, advise, motivate, encourage, listen and sometimes offer a hug.
